Do you have any questions you think I could help with?
Check out my folder labeled "Not everyone knows this.." up top. You may find something useful.
The typical time to syphon your gravel and do a 25% water change is about weekly or bi-weekly. (%percentage of water taken out varies on your own tank and the current parameters) Like many aspects that involve the hobby of fishkeeping, this all depends on your aquarium's bio-load and personal needs and is not a simple "do this = get this". If you think you need to do a water change, test your water parameters, read your fishes behavior, stay observant of how much you may be overfeeding, and how much waste your tank creates. You want your nitrites and ammonia levels at 0 with low but present nitrates.. What has changed since your tank was at it's best and smoothest?
Flaked fish food is great for providing the essential nutrients your fish need to thrive. Though not all fish qualify to eat those foods or are able to sense there is food within their reach when we use them. Many people aren't aware there are many fish specific foods; like goldfish flakes/pellets, catfish wafers/pellets, cichlid flakes/pellets etc etc.. These are great at targeting each feeding to every individual fish better and making sure they're getting the proper nutrients. Brine shrimp and bloodworms are protein rich and color boosting. Vegetables like peas, lettuce and spinach significantly help with boosting fiber and smooth digestion. Search what your specific fish are able to digest and enjoy eating and try some new things! Meal prepping frozen foods with vegetables is my preferred way to feed my tetra community tank. Prep, freeze, thaw and feed.
This question depends on what maintenance you feel comfortable and committed to doing. Though every tank, tiny or mighty will have maintenance ready for you. If you're planning on a community tank, think of adding things that will live together peacefully, and thrive in the same water parameters. If you just want an individual statement fish, keep in mind if they like to be kept solitary or in a school and if you'll eventually have to upgrade their home. Research about all the things you've been interested in and open your mind to new options. There may be something more fitting that you love even more. Take your time enjoying the hobby, the projects never end!
