Let's get things started right.

Many people aren't aware of the cycling process of a new tank. To cycle a fish tank, start by setting up your tank with filtration, heat (if needed), lighting, substrate, proper decorations, then finally dechlorinated water. This would also be the time to add any live plants to your aquarium as they play a role in the cycling process. Add a source of proper ammonia, like fish food to kickstart the cycling process. Beneficial bacteria will grow over time, converting ammonia to nitrites, then to nitrates. Test your water frequently until ammonia and nitrites are at a 0 and nitrates are present but low. This can take a few days to a few weeks. That's when your tank will be cycled and ready for a slow addition of new fish.

Acclimating fish is super important to help them adjust to their new environment. You'll want to start by floating the sealed bag in your tank for about 10-20 minutes to balance the temperature of the water. After those 10-20 minutes, gradually add tank water in the bag every few minutes for 20 minutes-1 hour to really ensure they're steadily acclimating to the new water conditions. Shrimp can be fragile to parameters changes and tend to do best with even slower adjustments. Finally, put your fish carefully into their new home without getting any bag water in your established tank to ensure you don't welcome any diseases or parasites lingering in the fish's previous tank water. Some people prefer to quarantine new fish for 3 - 11 days to truly assure no diseases will be introduced to the tank. It's all in comfortability and preference.
